The Aztec warriors were composed of both commoners and nobility. These groups were hierarchical and were organized into ranked societies according to their achievements. Every male received at least basic military training and the only opportunity for upward social advancement was through military achievements. Aztec warfare was a central part of Aztec government and politics because the Aztec state was centered around expansion.
